Modulating Friendship Trust into Context Level Trust in Trust Based Recommender Systems

In everyday life, we rely on recommendations from others to choose from various available options. While taking recommendations, people prefer recommendations from friends as they trust them to be their well wishers. This trust is referred to as friendship trust. A trust based recommender system where opinions are taken from trust worthy acquaintances to get personalized responses is proposed in this paper. There exists a web of trust among the agents, where user agent assigns initial trust as friendship trust on recommender agents. The friendship trust so obtained is modulated according to various parameters including expertise and experience of recommender in the related field, his similarity with the user, his unbiased ness while giving recommendations and the criticality of the current context. Thus friendship trust is modulated to get context level trust so as to get more meaningful recommendations.
